Bangka Belitung typical Kembung Betelok

Bangka Belitung typical Kembung Betelok

This food is gone and almost extinct on the island of Bangka. Whereas in the past, food was a must at big events.

This traditional dish is almost extinct on the island of Bangka. In fact, in the past, this was a dish of pride that must be present at a big event on the island of Bangka Belitung. Kembung Betelok is the local dialect for “egg-laying mackerel”.

In Bangka Belitung, this dish is usually served with blacan sauce which is special. The terasi is the Toboali terasi which is very tasty and well known for its quality. The sambal is only made from red chilies, garlic, and terasi.

Kembung betelok means mackerel laying eggs. But don't think you will eat mackerel eggs. Because this is just a name.

Kembung beletok is mashed mackerel meat mixed with spices, beaten chicken eggs, and thick coconut milk. This fish meat mixture is put back into the mackerel skin and then fried. Then serve with chili paste (blacan).

Making a rare betelok puffed recipe does require seriousness and patience. But if you manage to make it all the struggle to cook Indonesian cuisine will pay off.

The savory taste of mackerel is even more delicious because it combines with the savory coconut milk. Add great because when cooking the fish spines have been cleaned. This traditional recipe is said to be a dish of pride that must be present at big events.
