What is Tempe Mendoan?

Tempe Mendoan is a food made from tempeh which is coated with flour dough and then fried. This one food is one of the typical snacks from Banyumas, Central Java. 

Tempe Mendoan is very different from Tempe Mendoan in other areas, so it has a unique and distinctive taste in this one snack.

The name Tempe Mendoan comes from the word "mendo", which in the Banyumas language means "half-cooked" or "mushy". 

As the name implies, Tempe Mendoan has a characteristic with a soft texture because it is half-cooked. 

Unlike Tempe Mendoan in other areas, which are mostly dry fried. In addition, the uniqueness of Tempe Mendoan is seen in the oil that still wets the Tempe Mendoan.

In the manufacturing process, tempeh is put into the flour mixture that has been seasoned. Then fry it in a frying pan with hot oil. 

The frying process is not too long, because frying Tempe Mendoan is only half-cooked and not dry. 

So when frying must be quickly removed because the oil for frying is already hot. In addition, the oil used for frying Tempe Mendoan must be a lot, so that the tempeh maturity can be evenly distributed.

Tempe mendoan is usually served while warm because when it's cold, Tempe Mendoan tends to wilt so that the taste is already different. 

To enjoy it you can eat it with soy sauce or eat it with cayenne pepper. Tempe mendoan can be used as a side dish to meat or made into snacks to accompany relaxing with friends or family.
